Premium AEROTEC opens company site in Hamburg
Augsburg/Hamburg, 14 July 2017 – the aviation industry supplier Premium AEROTEC is developing its presence in Germany’s biggest aviation city. To achieve this, the company is building another site in Hamburg – and is once again ensuring that Hamburg is a portal into the future for aircraft construction. With around 150 employees in development and production, Premium AEROTEC has a strong presence – as a builder of close relationships with its clients and have a network of high-performance partners and suppliers. Premium AEROTEC opened its new site in Hamburg together with Frank Horch, the Hamburg Senator for Economy, Traffic and Innovation.
At its Hamburg plant, Premium AEROTEC is using innovative materials and processes to shape the future of aircraft construction with metals. In doing this, Premium AEROTEC sets clear focal points for development and technology. This is why the Hamburg site is the development centre for pressure hulls. Other hull components, such as the rear fuselage manufactured by Premium AEROTEC, the floor structure and the wing root which attaches to the hull are being developed further by the company at Augsburg. In terms of technology, Premium AEROTEC is also concentrating on metalworking processes and materials, particularly additive manufacturing. Furthermore, Premium AEROTEC deploys its own teams to support the installation of large components from the company at its client, Airbus.
“Hamburg offers us a great platform to bring technical concepts into industrial practice and drive digitalization forward with its scientific institutions, innovative Universities of Applied Sciences and numerous partners and suppliers”, said Dr. Thomas Ehm, Chairman of the Executive Board at Premium AEROTEC, at the site’s opening ceremony. “With a committed team originating from 20 different countries, we are making great contributions to shaping the future of aviation here at the high-tech hub of Germany. Our primary objective is to be a leader in additive manufacturing and in the application of composite materials.”
Premium AEROTEC has invested around a million euros in its Hamburg presence. Thanks to the conversion of a building on the Rüsch peninsula in Finkenwerder around 80 modern work stations are now available for its Hamburg development team. In addition to that, the company is present in the neighbouring Center for Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL) with a further 20 work stations.
Premium AEROTEC is a pioneer in additive manufacturing within the aviation industry. Recently, Premium AEROTEC won the Prize for Innovation for German Aviation in the Emission Reduction category for the very first time, for the advances it has made in metal 3D printing. The company has been manufacturing titanium structural components in high volumes since 2016 and is constantly adding new components to this technological process. Extensive new development of single parts goes hand-in-hand with this.
Premium AEROTEC generated revenues of 2 billion euros in 2016. The company’s core business lies in the development and production of metal and carbon fibre composite aircraft structures. The company has manufacturing sites in Augsburg, Bremen, Nordenham and Varel in Germany, as well as in Braşov in Romania. For further information see: www.premium-aerotec.com.
